Microbiology of an abandoned Pb–Zn mine: Impact on environmental metal contamination

چکیده

• Hydrozincite exhibits significant control on heavy metal mobility in other abandoned mining sites. No morphological similarity between biomineralized hydrozincite and Victoria Mine. Microbiological effects attenuation aqueous geochemistry are negligible. Microbial growth patterns community structure represent oligotrophic conditions. Large-scale Zn, Pb, Cu, Fe Ag ceased over 70 years ago the Aran Valley (Catalonia, Spain). Some of relics (e.g. tunnels, processing facilities tailings dumps) exhibit elevated concentrations metals associated water systems, thus posing a health risk neighboring ecosystem. In this study, largest underground zinc mine area was chosen as field site to showcase processes affecting environment. The precipitation (Zn 5 (CO 3 ) 2 (OH) 6 that occurs along walls ground galleries where flows serves Ni, Cd) polishing mechanism. We focus microbiology at its potential impact mobility. DNA sampled from several locations inside outside subsequently sequenced. This is used further determine relative diversity each make comparisons indoor outdoor locations. By way sequencing local communities, microbial batch experiments, samples known be product biomineralization, it confirmed mineral forms abiotically mine. Graphical Abstract. .

Investigation on Health Effects of an Abandoned Metal Mine

To investigate potential health risks associated with exposure to metals from an abandoned metal mine, the authors studied people living near an abandoned mine (n=102) and control groups (n=149). Levels of cadmium, copper, arsenic, lead, and zinc were measured in the air, soil, drinking water, and agricultural products. To assess individual exposure, biomarkers of each metal in blood and urine ...

environmental effects of gol-e-gohar iron ore mine on groundwater of the area

gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...

an investigation of the impact of self monitoring on langauge teachers motivational practice and its effect on learners motivation

the central purpose of this study was to conduct a case study about the role of self monitoring in teacher’s use of motivational strategies. furthermore it focused on how these strategies affected students’ motivational behavior. although many studies have been done to investigate teachers’ motivational strategies use (cheng & d?rnyei, 2007; d?rnyei & csizer, 1998; green, 2001, guilloteaux & d?...

Arsenic contamination and potential health risk implications at an abandoned tungsten mine, southern China.

In an extensive environmental study, field samples, including soil, water, rice, vegetable, fish, human hair and urine, were collected at an abandoned tungsten mine in Shantou City, southern China. Results showed that arsenic (As) concentration in agricultural soils ranged from 3.5 to 935 mg kg(-1) with the mean value of 129 mg kg(-1). In addition, As concentration reached up to 325 microg L(-1...

Stormflow hydrochemistry of a river draining an abandoned metal mine: the Afon Twymyn, central Wales.

Contaminated drainage from metal mines is a serious water-quality problem facing nations that exploit metal mineral resources. Measurements of river hydrochemistry during baseflow are common at mine sites, whilst detailed hydrochemical information regarding stormflow is limited and often confined to a single event. This study investigates the seasonal evolution of stormflow hydrochemistry at an...
